An enterprise gate workflow must distinguish a vehicle observation from an authorized entry decision. Coordinate the license plate recognition (LPR) record, supporting video, access permissions, operator role, and gate controller as separate parts of the design.
Part of Enterprise Vehicle Intelligence.
Define the conditions for vehicle entry
Define the conditions required for entry: approved vehicle, valid schedule, correct lane, secondary credential or operator review where required, and a supported controller interface. Identify which system owns the authorization and how the resulting event is recorded. Confirm exact products, versions, and permitted actions.
Plan for ambiguous reads and failed interfaces
Test unreadable or ambiguous plates, duplicate reads, wrong-direction traffic, expired permissions, queues, and communication loss. An LPR integration does not replace gate safety systems or qualified review of physical operation. Decide how staff handle a failed interface without creating an uncontrolled automatic opening path.
Test allowed and denied vehicle entry
Exercise allowed and denied cases with representative vehicles and lighting. Verify the correct lane, video context, authorization outcome, operator permissions, and event record. Test recovery after service interruption and confirm that delayed events cannot produce an unintended later action.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can an LPR observation alone authorize a vehicle gate to open?
An observation and an entry decision are separate parts of the design. Coordinate the plate record, supporting video, permissions, operator role, and gate controller under approved conditions. Do not assume a plate read establishes authorization.
What should an integrated vehicle-entry test include?
Test allowed and denied entry as well as ambiguous reads and failed interfaces. Verify the supporting records and the approved gate action. The review should demonstrate the full vehicle workflow, not just plate recognition.

Compliance, Codes & Project Standards
NERSA plans commercial and industrial security work with applicable code, documentation, inspection and authority-having-jurisdiction requirements in mind. Requirements vary by system, property and jurisdiction. These resources support project planning; they do not establish legal compliance, certification or AHJ approval.
