In 2021, Philip Murray House II (PMH II) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, contracted NERSA to install a security camera system covering every floor, elevators, all public areas, and parking lots. The project combined interior vandal-resistant dome cameras with exterior color-at-night bullet cameras and a communications infrastructure designed by NERSA.

The Challenge: Connect Coverage Throughout the Property
An apartment property brings together different surveillance environments: shared spaces on each floor, elevators, public areas, and outdoor parking lots. PMH II’s scope called for coverage across these areas and infrastructure to connect the cameras into the system.
The installation required attention to both camera placement and connectivity. Interior and exterior cameras serve different viewing conditions, while wired and wireless connections provide different ways to reach camera locations.
NERSA’s Security Camera Installation
Six Cameras on Every Floor
The contracted scope included six cameras on every floor. Camera coverage also extended into the elevators and all public areas. NERSA used interior vandal-resistant dome cameras for the indoor portion of the system.
Exterior Color-at-Night Bullet Cameras
Exterior bullet cameras provided coverage of the parking lots and outdoor areas. The exterior cameras incorporated color-at-night capability, supporting color imagery under suitable nighttime lighting conditions. Outdoor views and indoor shared spaces were addressed as parts of the same property-wide installation.
Cat 6 Wiring and PoE Switching
NERSA designed the camera connectivity infrastructure around Cat 6 wiring and PoE switches. Power over Ethernet carries network data and electrical power over compatible Ethernet connections, providing the infrastructure for the wired camera locations.
Outdoor Point-to-Point Wireless Connectivity
The infrastructure also included outdoor point-to-point wireless connectivity. These links extended network connectivity between outdoor locations as part of NERSA’s overall design, complementing the wired portions of the installation.
The Installed System
The project brought floor-by-floor coverage, elevators, public areas, and parking lots into one installation scope. Its defining elements were interior vandal-resistant domes, exterior color-at-night bullet cameras, and a NERSA-designed combination of structured cabling, PoE switching, and outdoor wireless links.
For Philadelphia property managers planning similar work, PMH II illustrates why camera selection and the supporting network need to be planned together. Coverage needs should guide the infrastructure design, including how cameras receive power and how each location connects.
