Campus security supported by doors, cameras and fiber infrastructure
The work combined Gallagher access control, Avigilon by Motorola video surveillance, door hardware upgrades and network infrastructure.
The purpose was to secure the learning campuses so young adults could benefit from government training programs.

The objective: support a secure learning environment
Learning campuses need security that supports the people using them each day. These six projects focused on upgrading controlled entry and video surveillance, with the infrastructure needed to support both systems.
The stated ranges describe the scale of individual projects: 65 to 200 doors and 120 to 340 cameras. They are not combined totals across the six projects.
Gallagher access control and door hardware upgrades
The access-control work used Gallagher systems. The scope extended beyond electronic controls to the physical doors and hardware that make controlled entry work.
- Door hardware upgrades and door coring.
- Electrified handles and electrified door strikes.
- Electrified push bars.
- Door position monitoring.
These elements brought door preparation, electrified hardware and door-status monitoring into the access-control project. For a similar campus, NERSA can review the existing openings and define the hardware and control work needed.
Avigilon video surveillance upgrades
The projects used Avigilon by Motorola video surveillance. Camera scopes ranged from 120 to 340 cameras by project, supporting the broader objective of securing the learning campuses.
At this scale, camera upgrades and their supporting connections belong in the same project plan. The Job Corps work included network and fiber services alongside the video-surveillance upgrades.
Inside-plant and outside-plant fiber services
NERSA’s services included network infrastructure and fiber optics work both inside buildings and outside between campus locations. The fiber scope included:
- Inside-plant fiber installation.
- Outside-plant fiber installation.
- Fiber testing and certification.
- Fiber repair.
This scope addressed the communications infrastructure as well as the security equipment it supported. It brought installation, testing, certification and repair into the campus upgrade work.
Six projects with a shared campus mission
Across the six projects, the scope brought together controlled doors, video surveillance and communications infrastructure. Each project’s size varied, while the purpose remained consistent: support secure campuses where young adults could participate in training.
The case study shows NERSA’s experience with campus-scale security upgrades in the Mid-Atlantic. For another property, an assessment can establish the existing door and camera counts, hardware needs, network conditions and fiber work required.
