Certificates can become a shared operational dependency across security servers, devices, browsers, and integrations. Track ownership and renewal so an expiry or trust change does not unexpectedly interrupt service.
Part of Enterprise Physical Security Cybersecurity Coordination.
Assign certificate ownership and renewal
Identify systems using certificates, their owners, issuing process, expiration dates, renewal method, and dependent clients or interfaces. Confirm supported certificate formats and deployment methods for the actual products. Coordinate the inventory with customer IT and keep associated sensitive material in approved secure storage.
Plan for expiry and trust changes
Plan for expired certificates, changed hostnames, replaced servers, unsupported devices, clock problems, and trust-chain changes. A renewal that works in one browser may still break an integration. Record exceptions and replacement plans for equipment that cannot meet the approved certificate requirements.
Test renewal across dependent systems
Pilot the renewal process and verify administration, device communication, integration, and recovery paths. Check the intended client types and dependent services. Record alerts and responsibilities far enough ahead of expiry to allow approved maintenance, and update the inventory after each change.
